KarateOC Weaksauce. Joined Mar 20, Messages CknSalad said:. From what I read esp. Tom's Hardware reviewthe SF has slightly worse QC where the fan curve may be more aggressive than needed, but also has the issue of getting really hot since its a w psu in such a small, constrained space.

I kind of wish Corsair released an SF Silverstone has a non-modular w unit in the near future as that would give me more of a peace of mind should I use a GTX level gpu. I know that a GTX build should be fine on the SF, but it would be nice to have just that slight 50w overhead. Due to power efficiency of gpus now, seems that w is really all that is needed for even moderate overclocks for an i7 and GTX level gpu.

The small form factor power supply for your big ideas.

But times have changed, and things rarely stand still in this business. The idea was to take what Silverstone was doing and raise it to the next level of performance.

Some guy somewhere has a board with a nail in it. His neighbor decides to one up him, and comes up with a bigger board with a bigger nail in it. Or something like that. The old model was certified 80 Plus Gold, and this one is at Platinum. Er… no. Marketing, not Miracle Whip. High performance, premium parts, and low noise in a small box are the key selling points of this unit, as you can see.

Most power supplies have those, and this one is no exception. Looks like Corsair went with the least manageable option there and used individual wire sleeving.

This looks great, but can be quite the functionality nightmare. And with SFX form factor cases, you kind of want these to be easy to manage. We have a power supply in a bag, some cable ties, a bag of stuff, a warranty guide, a user guide, safety information booklet, an ATX adapter bracket, and some modular cables. Corsair looks to have thrown in literally everything they could think of except a winning lottery ticket.

Testing Methodology About Us. Related Articles. Search for:. Design by ThemesDNA.Cablemod came out of nowhere last year, but has since become a well known name thanks to a lot of well placed media coverage. In fact, I took a look at one of their aftermarket PSU cable kits and was pretty impressed with what you got for the money. But this has been something PSU makers have been offering for a while as well, and the competition is harder when you have customers who buy PSUs and kits together.

The obvious other market is those who want customization beyond kits- per wire color, cable length, type of connectors and so on. This is where things can go real expensive- especially if you go with complete replacement cables and not just cable extensions. Cablemod wants a piece of this market, and launched their online configurator less than 2 months ago. Allow me to walk you through my journey from start to finish. Step 1 is fairly simple, you decide if you want fully custom extensions or replacement cables.

The former is universal and less expensive, but adds to the total length and can affect power delivery every so slightly. The latter is what I went with here intending to see what Cablemod could provide over the stock SF cables. Clicking on it resulted in more options coming up including choice of sleeving material- ModFlex Paracord or ModMesh Nylon.

This is a bit confusing as there is nylon paracord, polyester paracord and so on. I would suggest getting a sample of both to try out for yourself before placing any bulk order. The next two options are to give you a starting point for configuration and supported PSUs. Since the SF is one of the listed PSUs, the stock cable lengths are selected by default but you can change them in increments of 50 mm. Cablemod is interested in knowing if you would like to see this in the default table of options for the SF and so please voice your opinions in the comments below.

The pricing is per cable, so you can also pick and choose what you want. Thanks to Cablemod, I went with the full set. Step 3 is where you choose the individual sleeve colors. Note that since the power connectors have two rows of wiring that get sleeved, each set of wires will be the same color. That aside you can choose any color you want, as long as it is black, blue, green, light blue, light green, orange, purple, red, silver, white, yellow, pink or gold.

Below is what I went with, and yes I know that alternating black and white is nothing new:.

Небольшой апгрейд моего домашнего ПК

Just to show what can be possible, I also ordered a custom extension in. So both sets were added to the cart and the order was placed. Packaged in individual ziplock pouches and then bundled togethr inside a sheet of rolled up bubble wrap, all the cables arrived together.

The Cablemod cables come with no heatshrink, and are definitely a lot easier to work with and maneuver around compared to the stock SF cables. They are more flexible and bend to an even tighter radius, and are not flat in one dimension thus making it easy to roll them up where they will not be seen and then use cable combs optional purchase in the visible area. The colors came out nicely, and the custom lengths the EPS and the dual SATA cables were shorter than the stock cables based on my input in the configurator worked out nicely also.

For convenience alone, I would recommend that dual SATA cable even if it is not going to be visible necessarily.Smaller form factor systems have been growing in popularity in recent years, but often the largest components in these systems have been the power supply, forcing both power supply makers and case manufacturers to take a different approach. Many people have wondered ever since we first started talking about SFX PSU whether or not they will be available in high wattages, or if they would be able to offer the same efficiency and silence as their larger ATX brethren.

The Corsair SF series of power supplies are cooled by a small 92mm fan, but Corsair do state that this PSU is designed to run quietly, with the fan being turned off while under most loads. Efficiency is definitely the SF ranges party piece. When looking at ripple results they both hit the middle of the graphs, only power supplies with capacitors added to the cables or full blown digital monsters perform better. So although at first glance this appears to be a mediocre result it is infact yet more proof how great these units perform.

To see PSUs achieve ripple results that are always under 25mV is a huge feat and outperforms unitseven as recent as Corsairs own original RM series. When looking at an ultra small version of any product you must always compare it to its bigger brother, which rarely goes well.

Yes, the little brother can probably do most of the work his older sibling can manage, but you know who you are going to ask when it comes to doing some heavy lifting. In recent years, small form factor systems have become much more popular, with many new system builders looking to build PCs that are smaller than consoles while delivering performance that that can match even some of the largest PCs out there.

As cases have shrunk the PSU has often become something that has been awkward to place, making many wish that something smaller was available. This is where the SFX standard comes in. Corsair's SF and SF deliver a great deal of power for their size, enough power to run almost any single GPU system, even when overclocked, but do these PSUs give us the same level of stability and efficiency as their larger counterparts?

We have decided to give the Corsair SF and SF power supplies from Corsair the OC3D Performance Award as they deliver enthusiast-grade performance in a small factor with almost silent operation, which is a feat that many would have considered impossible a few years ago.

Corsair has set the standard high for SFX Power supplies, so let's hope that other brands can leave us equally impressed. Subscribing to the OC3D newsletter will keep you up-to-date on the latest technology reviews, competitions and goings-on at Overclock3D.

Or, if you want to save some money, check out the older SF Gold, which remains in production and is still a great power supply. That's is an improvement over the SF Gold, which forces its fan to spin at high speeds in the same usage scenario.

SilverStone was the first company to really innovate in this segment, and it still offers the most options with 12 SFX and SFX-L products in its portfolio. In fact, the W and W versions share the same number and type of cables. We find this odd, since the SF Platinum should be capable of supporting more devices.

Rather than affixing a v2 on this second-gen power supply, the company stuck to its 80 PLUS efficiency certification for identification purposes. The older SF Gold will remain in production as a more affordable alternative for folks who want a capable SFX-based PSU but don't necessary need to pay extra for increased efficiency. Thanks to the rifle bearing inside, it should last a long time.

Just remember that many high-end power supplies claiming to use FDB fans actually employ rifle bearing ones. At least Corsair is honest. On top of that, this fan has proven itself to be reliable in a number of other products. If it works well, why change it? Like a boss. I'm not overclocking however insufficient cooling for that. Just wait now for the SF to get reviewed :.
