Most common causes would be: 1. Faulty idle solenoid, 2. Faulty idle control module. Here's the diagnostic procedure performed: 1. Test solenoid 1. Test Idle control module 2. Given the above results, it would seem obvious that the solenoid is faulty, so I replaced the solenoid and now the problem is different.
Voltage measured at the solenoid spikes to 13v every two seconds then immediately returns to zero. For the record, the new solenoid measures All this would seem to indicate a faulty idle control module. While in my experience it's uncommon for two components to fail simultaneously, it's not unheard of.
So am I missing something here? The only two theories I have are 1. Both components failed and I also need a new Idle control module. Only the solenoid failed and the replacement I got is drawing too much current and tripping the idle control module, though this seems unlikely because It would also be useful to me to know the resistance of a working idle solenoid if anyone has one they could measure for me.

The idle solenoid is still good I jumped 12V to it and it got magnetic, plus the coil has the right resistance reading. I don't think there is a solution I can purchase to fix my idle control.
Do I have any options at all for fixing my weld idle control? Miller made a replacement module part no. There is a forum on the Miller website. The guys that frequent that may be able to help. Its a Miller Legend AEAD LE,so far i put 12volts to the pull soleniod and its working it snaps back well and the ground is good there,I have continuity from the wire there back to the Auto Idle Module,and i have continuity across the breakers,Am i safe to assume the Auto Idle Module is bad?

Just worked on one, of the same vintage, for future reference on the idle circuit. B is power in run C runs to the throttle solinoid and to the idle on off switch.
Now what generally happens is one or both of the controlling scrs the 2 little 8 amp volt square thingys in the center of the fingered colling tower This is pretty much the only thing that goes wrong with these units, I install a set of 25 amp Volt units in there place.

If your meter has an Ohm setting, use it to check the solenoid coil for being open bad or for continuity good. If no ohm meter, use a 12V battery and test leads to check to see if the solenoid will energize pull in.
Comment Post Cancel. If it will not idle down unplug one of the wires. If it idles down move on to the control board i assume.
If it does not idle down you have some thing stuck in the solenoid. Thanks guys, will try that. Also check to make sure that the plunger rod isn't bottomed out inside the solenoid. Sometimes the vibration on the engine will cause the bolts holding the solenoid to come loose and first time it tries to kick down, the solenoid will pull toward the plunger instead of the opposite.

It's a red box with spade terminals on it. Depending on the unit's year of manufacture, the idle control module may be here. Yup, It turned out to be a bad soleniod. Purrs like a Kitten now!
